IDs) Call for Papers Sensor networks enable us to observe and interact with physical phenomena in real time and allow users to monitor the environment and take appropriate actions. Such pervasive instrumentation will be of great value in a range of applications- security, telemedicine, transportation, crisis management etc. Sensor networks readily extend to monitoring interactions among hardware and software entities in ubiquitous computing environments. Sensor nodes are low resource devices – they possess limited CPU power and memory, are powered by batteries and communicate using wireless channels. The sensor nodes and their network are expected to provide sensory services to applications/users continually and autonomously. On the other hand, sensors are required to conserve their battery energy in order to prolong their active longevity.
In sensor applications it is necessary to carry out several resources intensive operations such as signal and image processing, data compression/decompression, data fusion, and provisioning data base services. Middle services can be deployed to enhance the usability of sensors and extend their life time. Such services utilize available computing and communicating resources and provide a consistent and uniform view of available resources and distributed services to sensors and applications executing on them. Papers dealing with service creation, composition, discovery and deployment will be presented at the conference. Special Session structure and attendance The Special Session will mainly comprise invited papers from researchers and scientists working on sensor networks and pervasive computing. Papers will be reviewed and revised if needed. The final papers should be ready by September 1, 2004. For more information please contact Dr. Mohan Kumar at kumar (@) cse.uta.edu |
